PANAJI: The 3rd Goa State Conference of All India Youth Federadation (AIYF) expressed serious concern at the alarming rate of unemployment prevailing in Goa, around 1,20,000 young men and women are declared unemployed on the rolls of employment exchange, and also pointed out that the faulty policies pursued by successive state governments have adversely affected the growth and development of Goa, affecting agriculture, tourism, mining, fisheries and traditional artisans in the state.
While the speakers urged that there was urgent need to protect the cultural heritage and traditions of Goa they also lamented that it was loosing its scenic beauty as concrete jungles have sprung up all over Goa. The land mafias and real estate agents have grabbed vast tracks of cultivable land, green forests and land of communidades. No land has been left in Goa for future generation.
The Tourism Industry has been left open to the vagaries of International market which has become an unpredictable. It has only benefited 5 - star hotel owners, casino owners, travel and tour operators and drug peddlers. The sons of the soil has not benefited from the tourism industry either, it was observed.
Held on Sunday at Azad Bhavan, Porvorim, the conference was inaugurated by the national president of AIYF, Mri Sandoshkumar. Mr Christopher Fonseca; Mr Suhaas Naik; Mr John Clark and Mr Rupesh Patkar were present along with others. The delegates were greeted by Mr Suhaas Naik, state president of AIYF. Mr Fonseca - General Secretary -AITUC guided the conference by his brief speech.
Concerns were also raised the manner in which the illegal, unscientific and reckless mining has devastated Goa's forest land, its fertile soil and plantations all over. A call has been given to control and regulate mining industry or else to nationalise all mines in Goa.
It decided to launch a State-wide campaign against the rampant corruption prevailing in the political and social arena to ensure smooth governance.
The conference elected the new committee which includes:- Mr Suhaas Naik, Dr Rupesh Patkar, Mr John Clark, Mr Sudip Pai Naik, Mr Sandesh T Naik, Mr Sadanand Sawant, Mr Shekhar Dhond, Mr Anil Naik, Mr Sameer Gaude, Mr Kalidas Naik and Ms Krantika Gawde.
