Acid attack case: accused remanded

MARGAO: Margao town police produced Agnelo Pango, 40, a resident of Raia, before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao, who remanded him to five-day police custody. Agnelo was arrested in connection with the case of causing injuries to two females after throwing acid on them.

Margao police said that offence under section 324 of IPC has been registered against the alleged accused and his Honda Active scooter has been seized.

Ms Joanita Pango and Ms Pearl D’Costa were injured in the incident which occurred on Saturday morning at around 10 a.m. Police said that the alleged used to chase Ms Pango from her residence and in this respect complaints were lodged at the Margao police station. Police said that Ms Pango along with her maid Pearl, had come to Margao on Saturday, when the alleged accused came on his scoter and threw acid
on them.

Ms Pango suffered burn injuries and was admitted in the Margao Hospicio Hospital. Police said that the alleged accused was arrested and lodged in custody.

Police said the motive behind the attack was that Agnelo made amorous advances towards Ms Pango which she refused to reciprocate, thereby enraging Agnelo. Police said more details were being collected.
