4 months time sought to bring victim in court

MARGAO: The case of the alleged rape of the Russian girl, in which John Fernandes is an accused, came up for hearing before the additional district and session judge, South Goa, Mr B P Deshpande, at which the Crime Branch, Panaji, investigating the case, sought time of four months, so that the victim girl could be brought before the court.

The public prosecutor, Mr Bhanudas Gaunker, representing the state made the prayer before the court. The victim girl was not present for the hearing on Wednesday.

It is learnt that Crime branch, through Interpol, will contact the victim and bring her back for the hearing.

Meanwhile, arguments on the bail application moved by John Fernandes, the accused in the alleged rape case, will come up for arguments on Thursday.

Judge Mr Deshpande has already framed charges against John Fernandes, who has been charged with committing the crime.

Charges have been framed under section 376 and 201 of IPC, the order of which says that since there is prima facie evidence, charges have been framed against the accused.

Mr Anacleto Viegas appeared on behalf of the alleged accused.
