12,000 delegates expected for 43rd IFFI: Wagh

PANAJI: Twelve thousand delegates are expected for the 43rd IFFI (International Film Festival of India) 2012; 42nd IFFI held last year had received 8,000 delegates.

This information was revealed by vice chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Mr Vishnu Wagh, on Monday.

"We have already received confirmation from around 10,000 delegates and with late fees we are expecting the number to reach around 12 to 13,000," stated Mr Wagh.

Speaking further, he mentioned that this year the footpath of D B Road right from Forrest Restaurant to Kala Academy will have an art wall.

"We have approached the Goan visual artists for this, where they will display their paintings, photographs etc," confirmed Mr Wagh.

On the point of having peripheral activities in villages, he maintained that this year the festivities will be a low key affair in villages due to financial crisis.

"There is crisis due to stop on mining. So, we have decided to make it a low profile. But, we have selected around 10 villages which will have such activities," he said adding the total budget for peripheral activities is around `2 crore.

He further elaborated on the opening venue which is the football stadium at Campal, Panaji.

"The total cost of the hanger is `1.23 crore. The total capacity of it will be around 2700 spectators" he added.

In the same breath he mentioned that having a hanger has indeed inflated the budget, adding the total budget of IFFI is around `9 crore.

We have received around `2 crore from main sponsors, he said adding this year also there will be Film Village at SAG Ground, Campal.

"ESG is setting up the Film Village that can accommodate 140 people. Till now 90 youth have confirmed for it," he stated. He also informed that this year there is no Kingfisher Village.

This year the official hospitality partner is Vivanta by Taj instead of Cidade de Goa. It is because only Vivanta satisfied the requirement of 100 rooms per night and also they quoted the lower price than the last year.

He said that there is a budget of `1 crore for the same. When asked whether there will be 3D screens as the opening film ‘Life of Pi’ is a 3D film, Mr Wagh stated that only Kala Academy will have a 3D screen.
