Panaji: Goa fell short by 35 runs chasing Karnataka’s 172 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match played at BSL Cricket Stadium in Bokaro on Sunday. Goa were bowled out for 137 in the 19th over.
Batting first, Karnataka’s Pavan Deshpande was the highest scorer for team putting up 63 in just 32 balls which included 5 sixes and one boundary. Opener KL Rahul, captain Manish Pandey and Karun Nair scored 34, 17 and 21 runs respectively to take the total to 172/9.
After Karun Nair’s departure, the entire middle and lower order failed to build a stand as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Goa’s Heramb Parab was the star in the bowling line-up taking 5 wickets while giving away 24 runs. Amulya Pandrekar took two for his side while Maliksab Sirur and Lakshay Garg took one wicket each.
Coming into chase, the Goa side looked shaken as not even a single partnership looked promising and batsmen were back in the pavillion at regular intervals.
Aditya Kaushik was the only talking point in Goa’s chase as he fell short by 2 run from his fifty after he was caught by Manish Pandey off Mithun Abhimanyu’s delivery.
Maliksab Sirur and Suyash Prabhudessai scored 27 and 28 runs respectively; apart from that none of the batsmen breached the double figure mark.
Karnataka’s Shreyas Gopal finished with an impressive 3/14, while Mithun, Ronit More and Pravin Dubey took two wickets each. Suchit Jadadeesha also took a wicket for the winning side.
