Feast of saints, Peter and Paul was celebrated with great fervor in Goa with the Sangodd at Candolim and Assolna on June 29, 2018. As per the annual tradition, ‘Sangodd’ was celebrated with the village residents sailing colourfully decorated boats ride in the nearby water bodies.
The festival is predominantly celebrated by the fisher folk community. Every year revellers dress in bright colour-coordinated T shirts to show their solidarity and excitement during the festival, dancing on the sailing boats. On the banks, people distributed sweets and snacks and watched the colourful boats in the lake.
At Assolna, three boats took rides in the water while in Candolim, four boats were tied together to hold the replica of the chapel that celebrates the feast. On the banks of the river in Candolim, the revelers watch the cultural programmes being performed on the boats. Traditional Konkani kantaram and comedy skits entertained the crowds gathered.
