PANAJI: Maintaining that both Lok Sabha (LS) election and bypolls in Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies could take place together, state Bharatiya Janata Party president Vinay Tendulkar on Tuesday said that lack of response from former president of the Mandrem BJP Mandal Ramesh Shet Mandrekar had forced him to replace Mandrekar with Madhu Parab.
He also informed that there is no plan for initiating any changes in the Shiroda BJP Mandal committee. Both, Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies are all set to face bypolls, as their legislators Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar had resigned in October 2018, to join the BJP.
Tendulkar had recently appointed Parab as the president of the Mandrem BJP Mandal, further informing that other office bearers and members of the Mandal committee would be appointed soon.
Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times,’ Tendulkar said that since the resignation of Sopte, he had convened at least 5 to 6 meetings of the BJP Mandals around the state. “However, Mandrekar neither attended these meetings, nor provided any reason for his absence, and further stopped all party activities in the Mandrem constituency,” he added, justifying the replacement of Mandrekar with Parab.
The state BJP president also said that Madhu Parab, a new party worker, besides former sarpanch and present panchayat member of the local village panchayat is a friendly person and admired by the population of Mandrem. “We are sure that he will play a major role in the victory of the BJP candidate at the Mandrem by-election,” he added.
Ramesh Shet Mandrekar is believed to be a close supporter of Laxmikant Parsekar, who is an aspirant for the BJP candidature at the Mandrem bypoll.
Tendulkar also informed that the Shiroda BJP Mandal is fully active and carrying out all activities including groundwork for the forthcoming Shiroda bypoll. “I don’t see any need for changing its committee,” he noted.
When asked if the state BJP unit has recommended names of candidates to the BJP central leadership for the Mandrem and Shiroda bypolls, Tendulkar said that it would be done once the bypolls are announced by the Election Commission of India. “All that process would begin once the bypolls are announced,” he reiterated.
Tendulkar further informed that the Mapusa Mandal of his party, as well as BJP’s state and the national leaders will all take decision about BJP candidate for the bypoll in Mapusa. He also said that Joshua, son of the former BJP MLA from Mapusa Francis D’Souza, should continue to work for the society by staying with the BJP.
