Goa’s Tanish wins All India u-19 doubles gold
PANAJI: Goa’s Tanisha Crasto along with Aditi Bhatt from Uttarakhand won the girls doubles U-19 title at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2018 held at Chandigarh. In the semifinal they defeated Sahithi Bandi/Thanushree R. 21-17, 15-21, 21-15. In the finals, they registered 24-22, 21-13 win over Preethi K. and Priya Devi Konjengbam to win the gold. They are now selected for the BWF World Junior Badminton Championships to be held at Canada in November this year.
Curtorim Gymkhana win Seamen’s Trophy
Chandor: Curtorim Gymkhana emerged champions of 45th Chandor Seamen Trophy football tournament defeating Navelim Sportng 3-1 in the final played at Chandor grounds on Sunday. Curtorim who dominated the play in both the session had it easy against their rivals in the final scored through James Fernandes, who bulged the nets twice while the other goal was scored by Milagres Fernandes. Navelim could not get their act together and went down tamely, though they managed to pull a goal back.
Vero Nunes elected GTTA president
PANAJI: Vero Nunes, was unanimously elected President of Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA) at the annual general body meeting held on Sept 23 at Bambolim Beach resort. Vishnu Kolwalkar and Sudin Verenker were elected as the two vice presidents while Suresh Bhangui and Subhash Pandit were elected as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Salgaocar Veterans are champs
BENAULIM: Salgaocar Veterans registered a solitary goal victory over Bardez Veterans to lift the 18th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans soccer tournament organised by Prime Sports Club and being played at St John the Baptist Ground, Danddo Benaulim. Salgaocar netted the all important match winner in the 42nd minute when Robert found Prem Dias unmarked close to the danger zone and the former Sesa Goa striker unleashed a right footer which went past Bardez goalkeeper Mario Aguiar.
Sporting win 7-a-side football tourney
FATORDA: Sporting Clube de Goa defeated FC Goa by a solitary goal to win the Late Shri Krisnanath Baburao Naik Seven a Side U-14 football festival organised by Salcete Football Club and played at the practice ground outside the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. The all-important goal was scored by the captain of Sporting, Francis Fernandes, five minutes before the end. In all twelve teams participated in the tournament.
