DBO Fatorda walk away as Wildred Leisure champs

Curtorim: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda emerged champions of Wilred Leisure Soccer defeating Sao Jose de Areal 2-1 played at Curtorim grounds on Sunday. It was Sao Jose de Areal who shot into the lead through Barcel Viegas in the 15th minute but then Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda came back strong and scored through Cresten Araujo in the 23rd minute to level the score. Cresten Araujo, the Don Bosco Oratory striker who was easily the pick of the lot thereafter scored the match winner for his team, finding the mark in the 44th minute to complete his brace of goals.


Don Bosco Fatorda lift Mardol title

MARDOL: Don Bosco Fatorda beat PY Nuvem 5-3 via tie breaker to lift 31st Mardol Rolling Trophy played at Mardol grounds. Nuvem went into lead in the 10th minute through Inacio Caloca’s 40-yard shot. Fatorda later equalised in the 73rd min through Roque Borges.


Ayush, Swera win U-17 state chess c’ship

PANAJI: Ayush Shirodkar and WCM Swera Braganca won the state U-17 Chess Championship 2018 in Open & Girls category respectively, organised by Pedne Taluka Chess Association under the aegis of Goa Chess Association. Ayush of Salcete scored 6.5 points with 6 wins and 1 draw. He defeated Om Barde in 6th round and Devesh Naik in the final round. WCM Swera Braganca, Tanvi Hadkonkar and WCM Gunjal Chopdekar scored 6 points each from 7 rounds but in the tie break Swera took 1st, Tanvi 2nd and Gunjal finished 3rd. Top 2 players in each category will represent Goa State in U-17 National to be held at Haryana from September 3 to 11.


SIM Boys are inter-ward champs

ARPORA: SIM Boys of Arpora-Simvado won the inter-ward football tournament beating Sankwadi Boys by 2-0 at st Joseph’s School ground, Arpora. Both goals were scored by Paresh Vaingankar in the second half of the match which got him best foward of the finals trophy.


Goa are All India Tennis Ball cricket champs

PANAJI: The Goan men’s team won the All India Tennis Ball Cricket tournament defeating Rajasthan in the final held in Tamil Nadu. In the six over game, Goa scored 43/2 with Rajdeep being the high scorer with 28 runs. Chasing, Rajasthan sank for just 8 runs, leaving Goa as champions by 35 runs.
