Milagres’ hat-trick hands Maina ticket to final

Benaulim: Striker Milagres Fernandes’ hat-trick and a goal each by Joliston Rebello and Cliffton Barbosa enabled Maina SC, Curtorim to register a 5-1 win against Navelim Villagers Union and enter the final of 14th Super Soccer played at St John the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Sunday. Maina striker Milagres Fernandes was easily the pick of the lot as he scored a brilliant hat-trick, bulging the nets twice in the first half and once in the second session. Maina went into the lead in the 15th minute through Joliston Rebello while the other goal was scored by Cliffton Barbosa in the second session. In the dying minutes, Navelim pulled a goal back through Aulon Gomes.

 

Ambelim go past Anjuna

PANAJI: In the ongoing Mardol Trophy 2018 football tournament, Ambelim outplayed Anjuna with ease finishing 3-1 on the score board in the match played at Mardol Ground on Sunday. Ambelim strikers gave their team the lead in the 6th minute through Samson Simoes. A few minutes later Samson looked to double the lead but Anjuna keeper Soma Korgaonkar made a good save. In the 50th minute, Rohit Kambli levelled it for Anjuna. But Ambelim’s Lairen Simoes came in with fitting reply in the 54th minute changing the score to 2-1. Lairen scored once again in the 64h minute to hand Ambelim a comfortable win.

 

Tanvi wins Tarcar memorial chess

PANAJI: Tanvi Hadkonkar won the Late Shripad Vishnu Tarcar Memorial State Women’s Chess Championship. She scored 7.5 points from round 8. In the sixth round she defeated AIM Sayuri Naik, then outplayed Nandhini in the 7th round and in the final round defeated WCM Gunjal Chopdekar. WCM Swera Braganca came 2nd with the score of 7 points. Nandhini Saripalli finished 3rd with 6.5 points while WCM Gunjal Chopdekar stood 4th with 6 points. All four players will represent National Women Senior Chess Championship.

 

Swayam wins Ponda chess tourney

PONDA: In the Ponda Taluka-level chess competition organised by Ponda Taluka Chess Association Swayam Naik has emerged victorious. Shivank Kuncolienkar, Vageesh Tendulkar, Vithal Pai, Sunay Pai and Yash Upadhye bagged position 2nd to 6th in the tournament.
