St Dominic Savio’s down Bastora Utd

NACHINOLA: St Dominic Savio’s edged past Bastora United 3-2 in the GFA’s Third Division League (Bardez Zone), at Nachinola grounds on Tuesday. Calvim went ahead in the 4th minute through Vijay Gosavi and soon doubled the lead with a scorching right footer Charles Fernandes. Crossing over in the 60th minute a curling shot from Calvim’s Shiva Gosavi found the nets. In the 65th and 80th minute Bastora netted two goals through Abusalia Havladar to make it 3-2.


Raia Veterans enter quarters

NUVEM: Raia Veterans entered the quarterfinals of the Fr Agustinho Rodrigues Memorial Veterans Football Tournament defeating St Santana Veterans, Bardez 6-5 via tie-breaker, at Nuvem church grounds on Tuesday. The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Raia Veterans scored accurately through Elvis Vaz, Peter Oliveira, Milagres Crasto, Antonio Cruz, Joaquim Fernandes and Roger Dias. St Santana Veterans could find the mark only through Francisco Rodrigues, Nagesh Shirodkar, Francis Fernandes, Joaquim Oliveira and Rajendra Borker.


Ugem Rising in last 8

DICARPALE: Ugem Rising reached the quarterfinals of the Our Lady of Fatima Cup football tournament defeating ICSC, Paroda 2-0 at Dicarpale grounds on Tuesday. Savil Rodrigues and Macson D’Costa were the goalscorers.


Meuton double sends Fr Agnel into quarters

MARGAO: Fr Agnel Multipurpose HSS, Verna entered the quarterfinals of Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football for U-17 boys after defeating CBSC, Rajasthan 2-1 in New Delhi on Tuesday. Fr Agnel’s most prolific striker Meuton Fernandes scored both the goals to keep his team’s flag flying high. Fr Agnel Multipurpose will now meet Tripura in the quarterfinals. Incidentally, Meuton Fernandes, having scored 9 goals in four matches, become the highest scorer in the ongoing tournament.


Maria Bambina HS in hockey finals

RAIA: Maria Bambina HS, Cuncolim entered the finals of Nehru Hockey tournament, organised by DSYA, after getting the better of Perpetual Succour HS, Navelim 2-0 at Raia, Manora grounds on Tuesday. Rizveatta Rebello scored both the goals for Maria Bambina HS.


Rosary HSS seal semis spot

RAIA: Rosary HSS, Navelim entered the semifinals of Nehru Hockey Tournament for Boys U-17 defeating Holy Spirit Institute, Margao 4-0 at Manora grounds, Raia. Shawn Gomes, Joseph Dias, Denson Fernandes and Anup Chowdhury scored for Rosary HSS.


Holy Rosary Convent, OL Lourdes HS progress

RAIA: Holy Rosary Convent HS, Nuvem and Our Lady of Lourdes HS, Utorda entered the pre-quarterfinals of U-14 boys hockey tournament, organised by DSYA, as they chalked out wins in their respective matches played at Raia grounds on Tuesday. While Holy Rosary rode on a fine brace by Henry Souza to beat Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Convent HS, Navelim 2-0, Our Lady of Lourdes HS, Utorda overcame Rosary HS, Navelim 1-0 with Sachin Bharti being scorer of the lone goal of the match.

AMBELIM: Holy Rosary Convent HS, Nuvem registered a solitary-goal win against St Joseph’s Convent HS, Nagoa to move into the next round of the U-14 girls football tournament, organised by DSYA, at Ambelim grounds on Tuesday. Hayunta Noronha scored the match winning goal for Holy Rosary Convent HS.


OL Rosary HS blank Bhatikar Model

AMBELIM: Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda thrashed Bhatikar Model English HS, Margao 3-0 to move into the next round of the U-14 boys football tournament, organised by DSYA, at Ambelim grounds on Tuesday. Jordan Borges scored a brace, while the other goal was scored by Michael. In another match, Our Lady of Health HS, Cuncolim defeated Assumpta Convent HS, Sarzora by a solitary goal. The all-important goal for the winners was scored by Jonathan Fernandes. In day’s another match, St Judes HS, Betalbatim defeated St Rita’s HS, Maina 4-2 via tie-breaker.


Girish replaces Ralin as unrecognised GBA head

PANAJI: Girish Lotlikar was elected unopposed as the president of Goa Basketball Association (not recognised by Goa Olympic Association) for a term of 4 years – till Sept 2021, at a meeting held in Don Bosco Oratory, Conference hall recently. The other members, as stated in a press note issued by Ralin D’Souza are: vice-presidents – Juliana Gurjao e Colaco, Madanent Verenkar, Olencio Dias; secretary – Ralin De Souza; treasurer – Shane Dias; members – Helena Pinto, Royston Costa, Sandeep Heble and Luis Gomes.


OL Grace, Sharada English, Progress, Wagle in semis

PANAJI: Our Lady of Grace HS will face Sharada English HS, Marcel while Progress HS, Sanquelim will clash against Wagle HS, Mangeshi in the girls semifinals of the 15th Sub Junior (U/16) State Tennis Ball Cricket Championships, organised by Tonca Sports & Art Academy, and being played at SAG ground, Campal. In their respective quarterfinal matches played on Tuesday, Wagle HS defeated Hedgewar HS, Cujira by 54 runs, Progress HS beat Shrimati HS, Velguem by 7 wickets, Sharada English HS edged Shree Saraswati HS, Juvem by 5 runs and Our Lady of Grace HS overwhelmed Our Lady of Rosary HS by 42 runs.


TT tourney at Clube Vasco de Gama

PANAJI: The 1st Dr Filipe Pinto Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament will be an annual event in the Goa table tennis calendar. The inaugural edition of the tournament will be held from September 18 to 24 at Clube Vasco da Gama in Panaji. Entries to the tournament are invited in the following categories: Cadet Girls and Cadet Boys; Sub-Junior Girls and Sub-Junior Boys; Junior Girls and Junior Boys; Women’s Singles and Men’s Singles. Entries should be submitted at Clube Vasco da Gama in Panaji latest by September 16, 4 pm.


Baseball selection trials

PANAJI: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) will be conducting the State Level selection trials to select teams for the 63rd National School Games in Baseball U-19 Girls. Selection will be held at Sports Complex, Fatorda on September 15 from 2.30 pm. Interested are requested to report in proper playing kit and along with their I-Card to Kailash Gaonkar, SAG coach.


GFDC has meet for parents in Siolim

SIOLIM: Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) Siolim organised a parents-trainee –coaches meeting at SFX school auditorium where parents were enlightened about the various activities which are undertaken to nurture children, says a press release issued by GFDC.

In day’s other matches, St Ann’s HS, Thivim defeated St Theresa HS, Candolim 2-1; Holy Cross HS, Bastora defeated St Thomas Boys HS, Aldona 2-0; St Francis Xavier HS, Siolim defeated Lourdes Convent HS, Saligao 3-1; St Joseph HS, Calangute defeated seminary of Our Lady Saligao 4-1 and St Joseph HS, Arpora defeated St Britto HS, Mapusa 1- 0.
