Panaji: Felix Alemao’s 11-wicket match haul handed Goa an 81-run win over Pondicherry on the last day of their Ranji Trophy Plate Group match at CAP Ground, Puducherry on Tuesday.
Alemao, who had taken 6 wickets in the first innings, finished with figures of 5 for 72 in the second innings, thus bowling out hosts for 184 runs; they were chasing 266-run winning target.
Commencing the last day at 229/5, Goa’s second innings came to a close at 255 as the lower order just gave away. Darshan Misal took big walk to the pavillion after completing his half century after being caught by S Karthik off Ashith’s delivery. Snehal Kauthankar 66 run innings ended after he was bowled by Sagar Trivedi. He was also the highest wicket taker for Pondicherry taking 4 for 56. Ashith on the other hand finished with 3 wickets.
Pondicherry’s chase started on a shaky note and they were reduced to 38/4 as the top order failed to put on a big partnership. Captain Rohit D could only contribute 7 runs.
Fabid Ahmed was the highest run scorer for Pondicherry but off the field after he got hurt. Pondicherry were bowled out for 184 runs.
For Goa, apart from Felix Almeo, Vijesh Prabhudessai and Darshan Misal impressed with two wickets each. Felix was awarded the man of the match.
