Glimpses of Ganesh Jayanti

Devotees gathered in large numbers on Tuesday to celebrate the birthday of Ganesha – the lord of wisdom, at Shree Mahaganpati Temple, Amona. Also known as Maagha Shukla Chaturthi, Ganesh Jayanti is a popular festival observed across Goa and Maharashtra. Ganesh Jayanti is held during the Shukla paksha Chaturthi day (fourth day of the bright fortnight or the waxing moon) in the month of Maagha corresponding to the Gregorian calendar month of January/February. On the occasion, in addition to fasting and observing the pooja rites for Ganesha, devotees sing bhajans to please the deity, followed by a palkhi procession.
