PANAJI: A day after the no confidence motion was moved against sarpanch of Curti–Khandepar Santan Fernandes, the Goa Forward Party (GFP), on Saturday, warned that if Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party continues to make attempts to destabilise the panchayat ruled by the party supported panel, it will have an impact on the coalition government.
Addressing a press conference, the GFP vice president, Durgadas Kamat alleged that the MGP leader from Ponda Dr Ketan Bhatikar on Friday forcefully took signature of the deputy sarpanch of Curti – Khandepar panchayat Shailesh Shet on the no confidence motion notice against the sarpanch.
Shet, who was also present during the press conference, said that he was threatened by Bhatikar to sign on the motion notice.
“Bhatikar offered me a bribe of a new flat and cash of Rs 15 lakh to support the sewage treatment plant and to sign the no confidence motion against Curti-Khandepar sarpanch, which I flatly refused. However, I was threatened with dire consequences if I did not sign the confidence motion,” he alleged.
Shet has filed a complaint at the Ponda police station against Bhatikar and panch member Bhika Kerkar.
Further speaking, Kamat said, “Panchayat panel has been formed by the GFP and Bharatiya Janata Party and it is performing well. However, the MGP leaders are trying to destabilise the panchayat by threatening the ruling members. Taking serious cognizance of this incident, on behalf of my party president Vijai Sardesai, GFP warns that if this kind of attempts are continued by MGP then it will have an impact on coalition government,” and added that “the MGP member should understand that politics is not physiotherapy.”
