Panaji: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Tuesday said that the casinos need to be closed down if it is proved that they do not benefit the Goans.
“If there are few Goans working on casinos then there is no harm in closing down the casinos. Where there are no benefits to Goans, we are not there…if casinos are not beneficial to Goans then we are against them and definitely they should be shut down,” said general secretary of GFP Mohandas Lolyekar while addressing a press conference in Panaji.
He said that while closing down the casinos, the government needs to protect the interests of Goans, who are employed on the casino vessels.
Another general secretary of the party Prashant Naik said that the government must come out with a policy as regards casinos at the earliest.
“There has to be a consensus of the coalition government on whether it wants them in River Mandovi or they should be shifted elsewhere. The government has to somehow take this forward,” he said.
