The Goa Football Association (GFA) shifted the First division league match between Holy Cross Arambol and Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club to Sangolda as the Duler ground was being used for the AFC B License course being conducted by Savio Medeira. However, whilst shifting, GFA officials forgot to prepare the Sangolda ground. Consequently, both teams had to wait while the goal nets were being fixed. In the end, the match started after much delay and Holy Cross Arambol managed to beat Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club 2-1 on Thursday.
Holy Cross Arambol scored two goals in the first session of play. In the 20th minute Jayesh Chopdekar headed the ball into the Vagator goal off a free kick from Shashank Ashvekar, while in the 33rd minute Shashank guided the ball past the keeper off a low cross from Dalesh Pednekar.
Vagator pulled a goal in the 92nd minute when from a short corner by Nitesh Salgaonkar , Rama Parsenkar curled the ball in, 2-1.
With today’s match Arambol has 13 points from seven matches, while Vagator stays on 7 points with seven matches.
In an ill tempered second session players from both the sides was given marching orders by referee Pramanad Mandrekar. Arambol’s Dalesh Pednekar (48th min) and Vagator’s Omkar Satarlkar (54th min).
There were no ball boys and no stretcher facilities, nor was there any seating arrangement for the print media. No line-up was provided.
At Goa Velha ground: Penha de Franca Sports Club defeated Goa Velha 2-0. Josley Dias scored a brace.
