Geno Pharmaceuticals and its subsidiary companies will be the sponsors of Goa Football Association (GFA) First Division League which is slated to start on March 31. Fourteen teams– Associacao Academica de Moira, Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao, Cuncolim Union, Curtorim Gymkhana, Dempo SC jrs, Dunes SC,Goa Police SC, Goa Velha SC, Salgaocar FC Jrs, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, Sesa FA, St Savio SC, United Club of Telaulim and Youth club of Manora-will be vying for the 2019 title.
Geno, who were sponsors of the First division league last season, continued its association this season because “Geno believes football is a religion in Goa and not cricket,” said Geno Chairman Dilip Salgaocar during the launch of the League at a city hotel on Monday.
“The tournament was well organized last year but something tells me it will be done better this year. That is why, we have decided to renew our contract with GFA for another year,” stated Dilip Salgaocar.
“We thank Dilip Salgaocar for not only renewing his association with us but for also hiking his company’s financial contribution towards running of the tournament,” stated senior GFA Vice president Lavinio Rebello during his address.
Spread over 91 games, the First division League which is to be played in five grounds in Goa is slated to end on May 13, 2019.
