Gauncar strikers dominate Our Lady Nagoa




A brace of goals by striker Calyx Miranda and a goal by defender Sheldon Pereira was enough for Gauncar Higher Secondary School, Raia to overcome Our Lady of Succour High School, Nagoa-Verna 3-1 and enter the pre-quarterfinals of Subroto Mukherjee Cup U-17 football tournament played at artificial grounds, Fatorda on Monday.

It was our Lady of Succour HS who stunned Gauncar with an early goal which came off in the 5th minute when attacking medio Ajay Doley banged it into the far corner of Gauncar’s nets.

The early goal in favour of Our Lady of Succour came off following a brilliant pass by striker Marvin Rebello into the box and Ajay Doley lost no time in striking it into the nets.

While Gauncar’s defenders Godwin Fernandes, Rowan Fernandes and Snogan Monteiro  quelled the moves made by Our Lady of Succour strikers when they latched on to counterforays, their midfield  functioned smoothly with total unision, which resulted in producing the leveller in the 25th minute.

Forcing a flag kick, which was brilliantly dispatched at the rival goal, striker Calyx Miranda rose high above the Our Lady of Succour High School defensive wall and headed one to beat the rival keeper Bloyton Estrocio.

Gauncar’s Sheldon Pereira who overlapped on a number of occasions, made it 2-1 in favour of his team with an angular effort in the 56th minute and thereafter Calyx Miranda completed his brace of goals for the day in the 65th minute.

In the other matches of the day, Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda thrashed St Jude’s High School, Betalbatim 5-0.

Beckham Dias scored a brace of goals for Our Lady of Rosary, while the other goals were scrored by Jordan Borges, Josell Cardozo, Weljoe Pinto.

In the following match, St Anthony’s High School, Majorda scored a huge 4-0 win against Kings Higher Secondary School, Sao Jose de Areal. Shenoy Costa scored a brace of goals for the winners, while the other goals were scrored by Aryan Dias and Leeroy Da Costa.

Both teams have entered the pre-quarterfinals.
