Future of Goa lies in educated, positive-thinking youth: Parsekar

PANAJI: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has called upon the student community to develop a positive mindset, sense of adhering to values and a tendency to create ideals while fulfilling their responsibilities and discharging duties to emerge as future role models of the society.

Parsekar was speaking at a concluding ceremony of Students Parliament held at the Secretariat. The function was organised by the Legislature Department in coordination with Goa Legislators Forum and Directorate of Higher Education.

Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar said that training is essential to develop trained and skilled manpower to take up any task and the idea of Students Parliament started by the government is a step in that direction.

He said that Students Parliament aims to train and create future trained political leaders. Through this competition, students are allowed to learn norms, etiquette required in parliament.

Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane, in his address, enlightened the students about the democratic legacy and restrictions which are to be followed as citizens.

V N S College of Art and Commerce, Assagao, emerged victorious winning the first prize of the competition. Kare College of Law, Margao, and Goa Institute of Management, Sankhali, won first and second runners-up prizes respectively.

Chief Minister, Speaker, and Leader of Opposition handed over prizes to the winners.

MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, ex-speaker Ulhas Asnodkar, ex-speaker Simon D’Souza, Prof Bhaskar Nayak was among others who attended the function.
