Francis strike sends PY Nuvem into semis

A first half strike by attacking medio Francis Colaco enabled Parish Youth, Nuvem overcome Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa-Verna by a solitary goal and enter the semifinals of 30th Super Soccer, at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Thursday.

The match winning goal for Parish Youth, Nuvem came off in the very sixth minute of play when a through-pass from the middle by Sanford Colaco was fully utilised by Francis Colaco as his power-packed shot gave no chance at all to the Rossman Cruz SC keeper K Pranav.

The match was then played on level terms with Rossman Cruz SC putting up brave efforts to level the score as they came up with several goal-bound moves after going into the arrears, even though PY Nuvem did manage to hold the ball in their possession for quite sometime.

PY Nuvem’s defence comprising Niclau Colaco and company kept a hawk’s eye on the Rossman Cruz strikers in both the sessions of play.

Rossman Cruz SC’s attacking medio Christo D’Mello and striker Beneston Baretto kept the rival defence under pressure as they combined superbly, working in complete tandem with each other.

In the 25th minute, Beneston almost found the mark as he managed to enter the box after dodging two rival defenders, but when he was about to shoot into the goal, he was pushed from behind by onrushing Niclau Colaso, who rescued the situation.

The second session saw Rossman Cruz putting up all out efforts to try and level the score .The Verna team were all over the rival territory and moved deep inside but they could not finish the job once inside the box. And even when they managed to sneak in, their strikers simply could not find the mark even from close distance.

As the match wore on, PY Nuvem played a defensive game, killing all the attacks that the rival team made.

In the last minute of play, Nuvem citadel almost fell but surprisingly the PY Nuvem keeper rose to the occasion to bring out a stunning save.
