Centre for Research and Excellence between Society and Technology (CREST) of Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar, organised ‘Okdaam 2018’. The event has been organised for the last three years with the objective of acting as a wellness entrepreneurship workshop to imbibe knowledge of traditional and modern medicinal practices for the body and mind.
The event began with a prayer by principal of the college, Frederick Rodrigues sfx, followed by a welcome song and the watering of a sapling by dignitaries. Present on the occasion were MD of Quadros Group and Patron of CREST, Evencio Quadros; proprietor of Edward’s yard, Mohan Dhond; organic farmer, Agnelo Correia; sarpanch of Agassaim, Xavier Gracias; and administrator of Fr Agnel College, Pilar, Menino Allan Tavares.
The event consisted of two lectures and workshop series. Pope John Paul-II Memorial Lecture was conducted by Amit Dias on the topic ‘Soul Connection for a Healthy Feeling’. The Inacio Almeida Memorial Lecture was conducted by Archana Dessai and her team from Goa Medical College on ‘Preserving Healthy Habits in Modern Era’.
The Inacio Almeida Memorial Workshop began with Mario taking students to the field area on the college campus identified as ‘Okdaam Farm’ which will be henceforth cultivated and looked after by students as part of practical farming activity. Along with Correia, Mario showed students how to till soil and mix organic manure.
Pope John Paul-II Memorial Workshop began with Joaquim Rebello sfx, Raymond D’souza and team preparing two healthy dishes. The first was a salad made of red leaves, onions glazed in olive oil and a hint of raw mango. The second dish was a Goan Balchao made with a red root.
The event concluded with certificates being distributed to students.
