PANAJI: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar laid the foundation stone of the pilot project of 4-laning of NH4A from Panaji to Old Goa at Chimbel Junction on Monday.
PWD Minister Ramkrishana Dhavalikar, MLA Pandurang Madkaikar, and others were present.
The project is envisaged as model corridor for future development of national highways in the state. The proposed work of Ribandar bypass including bridge/flyover across Chimbel creek is for a total length of 9.70 kms connecting Old Goa to Panaji along NH-4A.
The cost of road is Rs 80.93 crore and bridge/flyover is Rs 26.84 crore. The road is six lane with dedicated lane for two wheelers, dedicated truck lay byes and service road will also be provided at certain locations. The length of the bridge is 200 mts. With one span as vehicular underpass for Merces-Chimbel road.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that his government has cleared all the hurdles on the way towards progress. He said the promises made are being honoured and sought cooperation from the people of the state in its path towards progress.
Parrikar said that that the project will have special three metre lane for two wheelers on both the sides which is an attempt to reduce road accidents involving two wheelers.
The PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar said that for a developing state like Goa, roads and road transport play an important role in economic growth. The construction and improvement of roads bring a variety of benefits that are enjoyed practically by all the sectors of the economy.
He thanked the Chief Minister for providing financial assistance for the project.
