It might have been a Sunday, but Sunaparanta- Goa Centre for the Arts was buzzing with people in the evening to witness the preview to ‘Souza in the 1940’s’ a landmark exhibition in Goa of the master artist’s early works before he quit the country.
The evening began with the curator and director of Grosvenor Gallery, London, Cornor Macklin taking the attendees through a detailed presentation that delved upon the history of FN Souza – from his early life, to being a rebellious and outspoken youth in Mumbai, joining politics, to forming the Progressive Artist’s Group and his early days in London.
Conor through photographs, texts, and writings of the artists created a timeline to make people understand the artist whose works today are considered immortal. The presentation was followed by a discussion between Conor and Dinesh Vazirani.
FN Souza’s works from the 1940’s will be showcased in Goa till March 5, 2019. It is a show that is also being held in conjunction with Saffronart, New Delhi (December 19, 2018-January 18, 2019) and Grosvenor Gallery, London (December 14, 2018–January 25, 2019).
