The Goa Fashion Weekend is all set to take place today and tomorrow, November 26 and November 27. It is organised by The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and Canterbury in association with Cherylyne Pret Couture and Vladimir Furtado at the Open Air Auditorium from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. It will create a perfect platform for Goan fashion designers and accessory artisans.
As the annual expenditure for garments in the Indian film industry is estimated to be above `800 crore this platform has been created to give Goan designers access to this huge market.
The event is curated to provide a 2-day fashion and beauty binge. There will be fashion shows and a Style Village (exhibition) by designers, gourmet chefs and accessory artisans. The style village will be open from 4.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Day one will begin with a Kid’s fashion show by Sunshine School, after which Chief Minister and SBI personnel Prasanna Kumar will inaugurate the event. The opening show is scheduled at 7:40 p.m. followed by a fashion show by national costume award winning designer, Ninoshka Alvares Delaney.
With choreography done by Monty Sally and hair and make-up by Bina Punjani, she will showcase two collections: Ika’tara – a woven song created by the juxtaposition of Khadi and Ikat textile; and The Patchwork collection created by patching up remnant pieces of fabric together, which she says is an extension of the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle philosophy. The recent National award winning shirt which will be featured in the show will be worn by a surprise model who has never walked the ramp before. It forms part of the menswear outfits featured in this collection.
The day will end with a colourful film inspired fashion showcase at 8.30 p.m. by Manisha Salkar.
On day 2, Andrew from Dziners will showcase western formals through his fashion show and the grand finale will be done by Goan fashion designer, Cherylyne Estibeiro. Her collection takes inspiration from the 1930’s, known as the decade of quiet elegance. It has been infused with modern glamour.
