PANAJI: The cyber crime police managed to track down a class 10 student, accused of allegedly creating a fake profile of a minor girl on a popular social networking site, through IP address. The boy has been sent to Apna Ghar, Merces.
A standard XIth student had lodged a complaint that her Facebook profile had been created without her knowledge and that the boy had demanded mobile talk time recharge through the site, failing which he had allegedly threatened her to upload obscene photos.
Both, according to the police, are unknown to each other. Police have attached the mobile phone and the SIM card that were allegedly used by the minor boy in the crime. Police said that the boy claimed that it was his own idea to create the fake account, adding he belongs to a poor family.
The SIM card used in the offence, the police said, belongs to the neighbour of the boy.
It may be recalled that the cyber crime police station at Ribandar had registered an FIR in connection with the case on August 21.
This was the first case to be registered after the cyber crime police station was notified in the last week of July. Earlier such cases were registered at respective police stations and subsequently referred to the cyber crime.
The above case was investigated by police inspector Rajesh Job under the supervision of SP Karthik Kashyap.
