The sheer versatility of the BMW x drive was showcased recently in Goa, discovers Abdulla Khan
BMW India introduced the BMW x drive experience at IT Park ground, Dona Paula, recently. The unique driving experience was specially curated for Goan adventure enthusiasts.
Goa is the seventh city to host the BMW x drive experience and after Goa, the drive will travel to Delhi, Raipur, Lucknow, Jaipur and Kolkata.
President, BMW Group, Vikram Pawah, said, “The driving experiences offer the purest form of sheer driving pleasure. The x- Drive offers automobile enthusiasts the most exciting off-road driving experience in BMW sports activity vehicle (SAVs) under expert guidance of driver trainers. This adrenaline gushing driving experience demonstrates the prowess of the x Drive – an intelligent all-wheel-drive system. The experience is the blend of the best automotive technology and driving pleasure while pushing these vehicles to its performance limits.”
The event showcased the sophisticated technology of sports activity vehicles such as the X1, X3, X5 and X6. Under the expert guidance of internationally certified trainers, participants got to experience the extraordinary control, maneuverability and the grit of signature BMW x Drive technology on specially designed off-road track.
The SAV segment was created by BMW. The introduction of the X5 in 1999 opened up totally new dimensions for all-wheel drive vehicles. The X5 is a vehicle with off-road capabilities that can be driven like a sports car. The concept of the X5 encompasses the development of all-terrain models with a clear orientation towards luxury.
Coming back to the x Drive, it is an intelligent all-wheel drive system that monitors the driving situation constantly and distributes drive power smoothly between the axles. It splits the drive variably to the front and rear axles to suit the driving situation and the surface. Under normal driving conditions xDrive works with a basic 40/60 torque split front and rear. If there is any sudden change in requirements on account of differences in the friction values between the road surface and the driven wheels or because of the driving situation, the torque split can be varied within a fraction of a second without the driver even becoming aware of the change.
