The Entertainment Society of Goa is organising film related courses as an endeavour to promote cinema and writings on cinema in the month of September and October.
Film appreciation course
The intensive seven days part time course is designed to promote comprehensive understanding of cinema and give insight into the nature of cinema and other related forms and practices. The curriculum includes theoretical study of the art and history of film and the development of cinema as a medium of art and communication.
The participants will be introduced to the changing nature of film production and its evolving relationship with digital arts. Film classics, short films and non-fiction films, both Indian and international, will be used for critical analysis and study. Besides, landmark films will be screened in the evening.
This course will be held from September 15 to September 21 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. The fees per person are as follows, Individuals – `1000, Cinephile members and students – `500. The resource persons conducting the course will be Samer Nakhate, Ashok Rane, Ganesh Matkari and Anil Zankar.
Film journalism workshop
With Goa becoming the permanent venue of the International Film Festival of India, the ESG also publishes ‘Peacock’, the official daily of the festival. Besides, there are number of Goan publications and electronic media that covers the film festival, this workshop will benefit all and sundry as far as reporting and writing on cinema is concerned.
This workshop will be held on October 28 and October 29 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fees per person are as follows, Individuals – `1500, Students and Cinephile members – `500. The resource persons conducting this workshop will be Rajeev Masand (Editor, CNN IBN), Subhra Gupta (Film Critic, Indian Express) and Namrata Joshi (Entertainment Editor and Film Critic, The Hindu).
The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), in association with the Sunday Evening Quiz Club (SEQC), will be hosting ‘Lights, Camera, Question’, a quiz on the magic of movies, on September 24 at Maquinez Palace, Panaji.
The quiz will be replete with visual, audio and video content, and will cover all aspects of cinema, Indian and International. It will be conducted by Aniruddha Sen Gupta, a SEQC founder-member and one of Goa’s top quizzers and a BBC Mastermind India finalist.
The quiz will commence with a written preliminary round at 3 p.m., followed by an onstage finals. Participation is invited for the quiz in teams of two members. The quiz is open to all, and entry is free.
