To encourage and support Konkani artistes, the Konkani cultural organisation, Mandd Sobhann will hold its first global awards for cinema produced anywhere in the world and in any dialect of Konkani, in the year 2016-17. The award ceremony will be held on December 9 at 6 p.m. at Kalaangann, Mangalore.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Eric Ozario said that the awards are initiated to encourage Konkani filmmakers to make more Konkani films to help develop the industry.
“We will be giving awards in nine categories: Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actor (male), Best Actor (female), Best Supporting Actor (male), Best Supporting Actor (female), Best Screenplay/Script, Best Music (songs/background), and Best Short Film,” said Ozario.
Owing to the number of Konkani films being made here, the organisers are looking forward to the participation of Goan filmmakers. “Several films are shot and produced in Goa as compared to Mangalore. Hence we want Goan filmmakers to part take in the competition,” added Eric.
The competition films should run for a minimum 90 minutes and the dominant language should be Konkani.
The winners will be given a trophy and cash prize of `25,000. “The films will be judged by a panel of experts who will select three nominees and winners in each category to be announced on November 9. Nominees travelling from beyond Mangalore will be reimbursed for travel by train (II class A/C) to attend the awards ceremony and will be given accommodation,” said Eric. He concluded by saying that these are bi-annual awards.
