Endorsing Goa’s Fadistas

The ninth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) hosted its ‘fifth Concurso de Fado’ – a fado singing competition recently held at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji.

The first place in the 10 to 15 years category was won by Poorita Vaz while Kiana Zara Menezes and Eric J Pereira won the second and third place respectively. In the 16 to 21 years category, Daniella Fernandes won the coveted first place; the second and third place was awarded to Sigrid Fernandes and Jeannete Barbosa Noronha. In the above 22 years category Linus Fernandes secured the first place, Loraine Barreto Alberto and Grisha Costa won the second and third prize.

The competition was judged by music aficionados Fatima Figueiredo, Esmenia Veiga Coutinho and Gilda Machado. To train the contestants and hone their skills, Carlos Meneses and Orlando Noronha mentored the participants at a workshop held in Panaji and Margao prior to the contest. The ‘Os Jovens de Don Bosco’ enthralled the audience with their performance.
