PANAJI: The Aldona constituency is being represented by the former law and labour minister, Mr Dayanand Narvekar, for quite some time now; Mr Narvekar got elected from this constituency three times with a large margin of votes.
Now, a new constituency — Porvorim has been carved by separating the area of Porvorim from it.
In all there are five candidates contesting from here and include Mr Dayanand Narvekar (Congress), Mr Glenn J V A E Souza also known as Ticlo (Bharatiya Janata Party), Dr Wilfred de Souza (All India Trinamool Congress), Mr Julius Pereira (Goa Su-Raj) and Mr Ravindra Panjikar (independent).
Ucassaim and Bastora village panchayats, which were with the Saligaon constituency, have now been added to the Aldona constituency .
For the Congress candidate, Mr Dayanand Narvekar, his house is located in one of the two wards of Mapusa, which have been included in the Aldona constituency after the delimitation and these two wards nearly have 3,520 voters.
The Aldona constituency comprises of seven village panchayats of Moira, Nachinola, Bastora, Ucassaim, Pomburpa, Moira, Aldona and two wards of the Mapusa municipality.
The sitting MLA claims to have completed the voter-to-voter meeting much ahead of his opponents. He said that presently he is working to convert the negative votes into positive ones.
On the other hand his opponent, Mr Glenn Souza Ticlo, a businessman by profession, was seen moving around along with his campaigning committee members convincing the voters to cast their votes in his favour.
He is presenting himself as a new hope for the people of the Aldona constituency and has vowed to make Aldona a vibrant constituency with voters’ participation.
He claims to have made inroads into Mr Narvekar’s vote bank. In all, there are 24,703 voters and include 12,047 males and 12,656 females.Mr Narvekar boasts of spending huge amount of money for development of the constituency during his tenure.
