Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda seal semis spot

CUNCOLIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda sealed their spot in the semifinals of Cuncolim Union Trophy after getting the better of Navelim Sporting by a solitary goal, at Cuncolim grounds on Thursday.

The all-important goal for DBO Fatorda came as early as the 6th minute through their attacking medio Roque Borges.

The match-winner came off following a free kick which was nicely floated into the six-yard box by medio Cliff Barreto and as Navelim Sporting defender Covan Lawrence tried to clear the ball, it landed at the feet of Roque Borges who lost no time in slamming it in.

The match was then fought very closely with both the teams trying to outwit each other, making several goal-bound moves as the ball rolled on from one end to the other at an accelerating pace.

Both the teams had some clear chances to score in the second session. DBO Fatorda striker Joel Colaco on two occasions came very close to finding the mark, but his well-taken shots were neatly collected by Navelim Sporting keeper Cleton Gomes.

Midway into the second session, Cleton again rescued his team when Roque Borges let go two powerful tries which the Navelim keeper grabbed neatly.

Navelim Sporting defence gave a good account of themselves, except the one mistake when the ball fell at the feet of Roque Borges when Covan tried to clear it to safety. Covan Lawrence and Ariston Moraes stood firm in the Navelim defence to keep the Don Bosco strikers at bay.

DBO Fatorda’s midfield comprising Minguel Barreto and Cliff Barreto combined well and created several scoring chances, but the their strikers just could not find the mark to swell their lead.

In the last minute of play, DBO Fatorda striker Joel Colaco unleashed a power-packed shot which was bravely collected by Navelim keeper. DBO Fatorda goalkeeper Carrol Soares also brought off some good saves.
