Down by a goal, Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda made a spectacular comeback to register a 2-1 win over Chandor SC and enter the quarterfinals of Rising Cup, 2018 football tournament played at Cuncolim grounds on Saturday.

It was Chandor SC that started the match on an impressive note and went into the lead in the 17th minute when striker Sammy Fernandes on receiving a through pass from Carry Vaz, shot past the bewildered Don Bosco keeper Karol Soares.

Both the teams thereafter began to play at an accelerated pace as the ball rolled on from one end to the other.

Don Bosco Oratory produced three good moves late into the first session when they tried to restore parity but the strikes from Francis Andrade and Joel Coalso went inches over the bar.

The second session saw Don Bosco entering the field of play with renewed ideas as medio Joel Colaso and striker Nacil Pinto combined well as they split the rival defence time and often.

As the pressure mounted against the Chandor team, their defence crumbled under pressure in the 38th minute of the second session when substitute attacking medio Edgar Noronha found the mark.

Edgar on receiving a through pass from the right dashed into the box and unleashed a powerful shot which the Chandor keeper Oswin Rodirgues parried away but the ball found Edgar’s feet again that tapped it in to restore parity.

Don Bosco thereafter began to control the proceedings with fine passes and positional play with medio Cliff Barretto, Ashely Araujo and Caven Araujo working in tandem. They spread the ball well on both flanks and a goal looked imminent in their favour as the Don Bosco Orataory team camped most of the time in Chandor territory.

After much probing the breakthrough came off when Francisco Andrade scored the match winner off a neat pass from Joel Colaso in the 45th minute.

Chandor thereafter tried to make a comeback as medios Socoro Fernandes, Johnson Fernandes and Leno Vaz lauched a flurry of raids. But try as they would to breach the Don Bosco defence, they would not find success as the defenders as well as their keeper stood firm.

In the last ten minutes of play, Chandor came very close to find the mark as striker Sammy Fernandes and Briven Dias let go some powerful shots, which missed the mark narrowly.

Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda now meet Sporting Club of Davorlim in the quarterfinals to be played on September 7.

Don Bosco Oratory keeper Karol Soares won the man-of-the–match award for his spectacular performance.
