The Diocesan Catechetical Centre celebrated its golden jubilee on March 7, at the Pastoral Institute St Pius X, Old Goa.
The celebration began with a faith exhibition presented by school and catechism students. A brass band led by students of St Theresa’s Convent High School, Raia accompanied the dignitaries to the entrance of the Pastoral Institute. Colourful balloons were released in the air as a sign of gratitude to God.
This was followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided over by archbishop of Goa and Daman, Filipe Neri Ferrão. The mass was con-celebrated by archbishop of Delhi, Anil Couto; vicar general, Fr Jose Remedios Fernandes; director of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre, Fr Romeu Godinho, and other priests. In his address, archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão said: “We are celebrating a journey of 50 years of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre which has been a journey of discipleship, faith, prayer, love and a witness to Jesus and to our faith. Today is a milestone in this journey. A golden jubilee is a God-given moment of His grace.”
A cultural programme followed, presented by the catechism students, catechists and teachers. The programme consisted of a prayer-dance by Our Lady of Grace Church, Margao; a welcome song by the parishes of Chinchinnim, Carmona, Cavelossim, Varca and Orlim; an English skit by St Anthony’s High School, Majorda; and a mando presented by St Joseph Church, Usgao. A special theme song ‘Bhangaracho Utsov’, composed by Fr Romeu Godinho was presented in dance-form by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel, Ponda.
Present and former directors of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre, priests, and catechists who selflessly dedicated themselves in serving the Catechetical Centre were honoured with a memento.
