Digambar Kamat summoned by SIT for questioning

PANAJI: Former chief minister Digambar Kamat has been summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the multi-crore mining scam, for questioning.

The Margao MLA has been called for questioning in connection with the alleged illegal condonation of delay in mining lease located at Collem.

In September 2014, the SIT had registered a first information report (FIR) against Prafulla Hede in connection with alleged illegal condonation of delay in mining lease located at Collem.

Apart from Hede, offence was also registered against public servants and government officials.

While Kamat has been asked to appear on Tuesday next week, Hede has been summoned later this week on Saturday.

SIT officials said that some Mines Department employees are also being summoned in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, in connection with the main case, in which SIT is examining several mining leases, it has once again summoned Raajiv Yaduvanshi, an IAS officer, on Wednesday for questioning, Yaduvanshi was questioned on Friday and Saturday (last week) in connection with the mining illegalities.

Yaduvanshi was the secretary, mines and geology, Goa for around five years during which the alleged mining illegalities had taken place, SIT officials said.

Yaduvanshi is currently posted in Delhi. The SIT is looking into his role, if any, especially in connection with condonation of delay in mining leases.
