Dhempe College inspires students to go green

In a bid to create awareness about the need to maintain unity with nature, the students and faculty of Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar celebrated Green Day.

Chief guest for the inaugural function was IAS officer, Menaka R. In her address Menaka provided insight into the magnitude of the problem of waste management in Goa and encouraged students to find simple ways to tackle this problem. “Find simple and creative ways to reduce the use of dry waste,” she said.

Principal, Vrinda Borker said the college is the first institute of higher learning in the state which has a green certificate from the Green Standard Certification Program. Administrator, Dempo Charities Trust, Rajesh Bhatikar appreciated the efforts of the college in creating awareness regarding clean environment.

Nearly 425 students participated in the activities such as, interactive sessions with resource persons, documentary screenings, poetry writing and recitation, quiz, poster making, beach cleaning and other activities that livened the day and brought about a spirit of enthusiasm amidst students to work towards building a greener and cleaner future. The ceremony concluded with a tree planting activity on the premises.
