DULER: IFA (West Bengal) advanced into the quarters of the Junior Girls National Football Championship, organised by GFA, by beating Uttar Pradesh comfortably 2-0 in their match played at Duler stadium on Thursday.
IFA that had an easy outing in their first match against Pondicherry whom they had drubbed 12-0, had to wait till the 40th minute where Devneta Roy scored through a brilliant solo effort, 1-0.
Earlier in the match, several goal scoring efforts by Devneta Roy, Sunita Sarkar and Mini Roy were superbly saved by Uttar Pradesh keeper Raj Laxmi Sonkar. On crossing ends it was once again Devneta Roy who on collecting a pass from Sunita Sarkar covered some ground and latched a right footer which crashed into the back of the UP nylons making it 2-0.
In the earlier match of the day, Odisha trounced Arunachal Pradesh 4-0.
Odisha that had thrashed Andhra Pradesh 8-2 in the opening match also secured a place in the quarters. It was Deepa Nayak who opened the account for Odisha in the 23rd minute with a neat placement, 1-0.
On crossing over, Odisha hammered three more goals through Susmita Tanty and Manisha Naik (2) finishing the game 4-0, leaving Arunachal Pradesh to bite the dust.
