Dempo SC qualify for final phase

Ella: Dempo SC qualified for the final phase of AIFF Sub Junior League as they sealed a top-place finish in Goa Zone after playing out a goalless draw against Salgaocar FC in their final league match played at Dempo SC Academy ground in Ella-Old Goa, on Sunday.

Dempo SC — who remained undefeated in the league — finished their campaign with 18 points from 8 matches and stayed two points ahead of Salgaocar FC, who too remained unbeaten and pocketed 16 points from same number of matches.

In a game that was played at fast pace, no team could dominate each other as the players from either side displayed some good attacking football.

Dempo SC’s Swavel Furtardo and captain Nihar Naik impressed the most with their skills.

Speaking after his team’s qualification in the final phase, an elated yet emotional head coach Pradip Chopdekar credited everyone at the Club from the bus driver to the senior management for playing an important role in helping the team achieve the success.

“This win is for Mr Dempo. It is because of him that we have a chance to do what we do. It is his vision to develop our youth in terms of good human beings and footballers,” he said.

Chopdekar also remembered late Katz Naidoo, saying, “Katz Naidoo may have left us in body but the results on the pitch is a proof that he has not left us in spirit.”
