Nagoa: A brace by Shreyash Naik and a neat strike by Sherwin Abranches was enough for Dempo Sports Club to demolish Salgaocar FC 3-0 in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Junior League played at Nagoa grounds, Verna on Wednesday morning.
All the goals came in the first session of play.
Dominating the play in both sessions with flourishing moves, Dempo SC punctured the Salgaocar defence time and again with striker Vieri Colaso and company creating ripples for the major part of the proceedings. However, scoring was a headache.
Dempo SC were way ahead of their rivals in every department of the game whilst the Salgaocar FC struggled to find their rhythm and appeared lost against Dempo SC.
As a matter of fact, Salgaocar FC could not create a single move that threatened the Dempo SC rearguard. At the most, they created a few counter forays but they lacked the necessary punch to dent the Dempo SC’s defensive back four.
As Dempo SC team probed and teased the rivals, with pluck and panache, there were visible sparks right from the start and they showed that they meant business when they took the lead in the 9th minute of play.
Vieri Colaso passed the ball to Shreyash who responded with a smart push to send the ball to the far corner of Salgaocar FC nets, past the bewildered keeper Syden Furtado – who had a great day under the bar, making several brave saves.
Thereafter, Dempo SC had a few more chances to find the mark, all of which evaporated in thin air either due to good goalkeeping by Salgaocar FC keeper or simply because the strikers messed up the chances that came their way.
Dempo SC buttressed their lead in the 27th minute when Shreyash fired in after drawing the rival keeper off his position – following a good forward pass from the middle. Shreyash ran down the flank and rolled the ball to the far end of Salgaocar FC nets to completely deceive the Salgacoar keeper.
Engineering fine moves that had the element of goals largely written on them, Dempo SC were all over the rival territory with the defence and midfield working in complete tandem with each other .Their good efforts paid dividends when they scored their third goal in the 38th minute through Sherwin Abranches whose power-packed free kick crashed to the far end of Salgaocar FC nets from 25 yards.
Despite the absence of two of their key players—Dwayne Neto and Shamee Vaz, both midfielders, Dempo SC continued with their dazzling display in the second session too and had a half a dozen of chances to bulge the nets. All the opportunities that came their way could not be utilised as the strikers fumbled in front of goal.
With this win, Dempo SC have now collected nine points.
