The annual prize distribution ceremony of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cujira, St Cruz, was held in the Audio Visual room of the institution.
Chief Guest for the function was minister of department of health, craftsmen training, women and child development, government of Goa, Vishwajit Rane and chairman of Dempo Charities Trust Srinivas Dempo was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Rane said that it was an emotional moment for him to come to his alma mater. He urged students to be focussed in every endeavour, not limit themselves and to have long term goals in life.
In his welcome address, Dempo expressed that maintaining quality in health and education is a big challenge. He appealed to parents to be open minded in letting their children choose a field of their choice.
The prize winners were felicitated at the hands of Rane; trustee of Dempo Charities Trust, Yatish Dempo and administrator of Dempo Charities Trust, Rajesh Bhatikar.
Toppers of the institution who excelled at the March 2017 HSSC Goa Board examination were felicitated along with other meritorious students. The best student award in the Arts stream for the academic year 2017-18 was won by Pallavi Betkikar, while the best student award in the Science and Commerce stream was awarded to Saavi Milind Natekar and Shivani Bhide, respectively.
Best sports boy for the year 2017-18 was awarded to Shawn Aranjo from XII Commerce, while Kriesha Naik from XII Arts, won the best sports girl. Vishwajit Rane excelled as the best NSS boy volunteer, while Mahima Velingkar won the best NSS girl volunteer for the academic year 2017-2018.
Prize distribution ceremony was followed by an entertainment programme presented by students on the theme ‘Universal Culture’ conceptualised by principal Rupa Khope and choreographed by Gauri Shaikh.
