Minguel Barretto’s 19th minute strike helped Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda overcome Chandor Club by a solitary goal and enter the quarterfinals of Cuncolim Union Trophy, at Cuncolim grounds on Wednesday.
After collecting a smart pass from Sindon Madeira, Minguel overran the entire Chandor Club defence and deftly placed the ball to the far end of the nets to beat Chandor keeper Mario Noronha. The match then rose to some dizzy heights with the ball rolling from one end to the other as both the teams played attacking brand of soccer, much to the delight of the sizeable crowd.
Both the teams had a strong defence and had it not been a little lethargic attitude from the Chandor defence, the scoreline of the match would have been different altogether.
Both the teams had their share of chances but except the one that proved to be the match-winner, others failed to get desired results. On two occasions, Chandor striker Jovito Fernandes sent two powerful tries — once each in either half — but on both the counts DBO Fatorda keeper P Bonny plucked the ball easily. DBO Fatorda’s medio Roque Borges had three tries but his shots missed the mark narrowly.
