Dalai Lama gets a musical welcome

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, along with trustee, The Foundation for Universal Responsibility, Rajiv Mehrotra and Vice Chancellor, Goa University, Varun Sahni

Throngs of students, locals and foreigners made their way to the Kala Academy, Panaji to witness a talk on ‘The Relevance of Ancient Nalanda Teachings in our Modern Times’ by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.

On the occasion, the Goa University Choir performed three compositions. One of the compositions performed was the ‘Big Ocean Cantata’ that embodies the words of the Dalai Lama. Composed by maestro Santiago Lusardi Girelli, ‘Big Ocean Cantata’ is the result of creative and interdisciplinary research and a combination of elements of Indian and Tibetan traditions blended with Western contemporary techniques.

Through the use of these elements ‘Big Ocean Cantata’ creates a soundscape that represents the rich Tibetan traditions, its aspirations and hope, and the crucial need of dialogue and a sincere quest for peace.
