Three goals in the last five minutes of the game — two by Milagres Fernandes and one by Velson Fernandes, enabled Curtorim Gymkhana come back from two goals down to stun Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 3-2 and enter the quarterfinals of South Goa Yaari Cup football Tournament played at Cuncolim grounds on Friday.
DBO, Fatorda were leading by two goals with only five minutes more to go for the final hooter. However, lack of concentration in this particular period cost them dearly as rivals Curtorim Gymkhana came charging in and scored three goals to knock them out of the tournament.
In the first session both the teams retorted to defensive play and as such it remained all barren without a goal being scored. The second session however saw both teams completely charged up as the ball ran from one end to the other.
DBO, Fatorda surged into the lead in the 40th minute through a goal scored by Creson Araujo whose header kept the Curtorim Gymkhana keeper Veron Fernandes rooted under the bar.
It was a neat cross from Cavin Araujo which Creson sent to the far corner of the rival nets, after leaping high in the air.
Soon DBO Fatorda buttressed their lead through Cliff Barretto whose 40-yard shot had no answer from Curtorim Gymkhana keeper.
And just when the match entered in the 65th minute, Milagres Fernandes scored Curtorim Gymkhana’s first goal and very next minute struck yet again to complete his brace and in the process also levelled terms for his team. Three minutes later, it was the turn of Velson Fernandes to take forward his teammates good work as he after receiving a neat assist from Milagres Fernandes shot past the bewildered DBO Fatorda keeper Swizel
