Cuncolim Union, Sesa FA share goals and points

Cuncolim Union and Sesa Football Academy played out a well contested 1-1 draw to split points in the GFA Geno First Division Football League match played at artificial grounds, Fatorda on Tuesday.

Sesa Football Academy went into the lead much against the run of play through a spot kick as referee Mario Pereira, who controlled the match well, pulled up Cuncolim Union’s defender Aliston D’Souza for handling the ball in the six yard box when the match was fifty eight minutes old.

Sesa Football Academy’s striker Ryan Fernandes, who stepped up to take the penalty shot, blasted the ball to the far corner of the nets to beat Cuncolim Union keeper Oswin Rodrigues who otherwise had a good day under the bar.

Cuncolim Union, who dazzled in patches ,in  both the sessions of play, levelled the score in the 67th minute through medio John Khati  who on receiving a neat pass from defender Raju Padashi sent a stiff grounder, giving no chance at all to Sesa Football Academy keeper  Roanai Gaunkar.

The match was fought aggressively by both the teams in which Cuncolim Union had a slight edge over their rivals in terms of possession and therefore had better opportunities to score. However, their strikers did not have the imagination and sting to fire accurately in the opponents’ goal.

Cuncolim Union had two great chances, in either sessions of play, but medio John and striker Necil Pinto along with Frazer Fernandes and Samgam Gaonkar failed to give finishing touches to the ball when opportunities came their way.

Sesa Football Academy too had their say and could have done much better to find the mark. However,Jawad P P and Kunal Salgaocar along with medio Vishnu Gosavi tended to hold the ball for too long, instead of either shooting or passing to a better placed colleague.

Rowan Pereira did a good job for Sesa Football Academy in the midfield and was seen falling back on a number of times to clear the ball to safety when Cuncolim Union came hard on them.

Cuncolim Union’s John had a glorious chance to find the mark midway into the second session but he simply delayed to shoot in.

Sesa F A hdsome dangerous forays in the last quarter of the match and showed they wanted to score. Their strikers were either denied by the Cuncolim Union keeper Oswin Rodrigues or the defense somehow cleared the ball to safety before any danger to their citadel.
