Cunchelim Sports Club and Assonora United registered vital wins in their respective encounters of the Goa Football Association Second Division League match played on Wednesday.
While the Cunchelim side eased their way past Saligao Sporting with a 3-1 score line, Assonora United came from behind to down Milagres Sports Club.
At Duler, it was a slow start to the game as both teams– Cunchelim Sports Club and Saligao Sporting had a nervy opening minutes as they struggled to maintain possession.
With not much action in the first 30 minutes of the game, Cunchelim Sports Club opened their account in the 32nd minute through Mahableshwar Thanekar. The striker showed his class in front of the goal as he composedly slotted past the rival keeper. The goal turned out to be the only difference between the two sides as Cunchelim led at the half time whistle.
In the second half, Saligao Sporting did put up a team performance that saw them create some impressive moves but their strikers lacked sharpness.
In the 71st minute Cunchelim consolidated their lead through Rohan Khamble but Saligao Sporting reduced the margin as Ajay Diwadkar right footer slammed into the Cunchelim goal, 1-2.
At the other end, Cunchelim scored their third through Ganesh Poojar to make it safe for his side and pocket full points.
In another match at Poriat ground, in a keenly contested battle, Albino Pereira put Milagres SC ahead in the 35th minute but they couldn’t hold on to the lead for long as Assonora regrouped and made it all square within two minutes as Dikshay S scored with a sublime finish in the 37th minute.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
In the second half, Brigish K put Assonora ahead in the game scoring against run of play in the 66th minute.
In the 70th minute, Milagres received another setback as their forward Albino received marching orders for abusive language as referee made no hesitation to flash him second yellow as he was already in the referee’s books for his first half deliberate handball.
Down by a man and a goal, was always going to be a struggling affair but Milagres luckily kept the defense strong despite failing to find the equalising goal.
In another match played at Ambelim ground, Aulon Gomes scored the only goal of the match in the 41st minute as Mandopa Sports Club beat SWC Zaino 1-0.
