18-year-old arrested with stolen bike

PANAJI: The anti burglary squad of the crime branch arrested an 18- year-old from Caranzalem and recovered a stolen motorcycle. Police identified the accused as Karan Yadav. The accused has been released on bail.  According to police, Yadav was arrested on Monday night after police got suspicious over the registration number of the two-wheeler. The registration number according to police was fake as it is allotted only to four-wheelers. Upon interrogation the accused claimed that the motorcycle does not belong to him and that he had found the bike abandoned on the road.  Police said that the engine and chassis number of the two-wheeler has been sent to police station across the state for verification. Usgao resident gets conditional bail in molestation case

PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has granted conditional bail to an alleged accused in a molestation case. The alleged accused Pascoal Fernandes of Usgao was arrested on September 25 for offences punishable under Sections 354-A and 506 (ii) of Indian Penal Code, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act, 2003 and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. According to the complaint, the father of a minor victim girl alleged that from September 13 to 20 the alleged accused molested the child inside his private school vehicle at Usgao. The High Court said that the applicant shall be released on bail upon execution of a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with one solvent surety in like amount and with some conditions. NT

The court has issued notices to Cuncolim police, defense advocate and public prosecutor T S Sardinha and has posted the matter for arguments on November 13. Man arrested for raping 22-year-old student at Vasco

MARGAO:  Amarendra Raj Kumar, a resident of Bihar was arrested on charges of raping a 22-year-old woman student from Jamshedpur-Jharkhand after confining her in a rented room at Vasco. The alleged accused has been charged under Section 376 (rape), Section 342 (wrongful confinement), Section 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. According to the chargesheet, Kumar was working as a cook in Vasco. He befriended the woman promising to get married to her. However, the accused confined her in the rented room and raped her. The victim was not allowed to use the phone. She managed to narrate her story to her parents who rushed to Goa and filed a complaint with the police. The Vasco police later arrested Kumar and registered an offence against him. NT

 

Fatorpa murder: accused gets 14-day custody

MARGAO: Jayesh Naik, 36, a resident of Cotta-Fatorpa, arrested by Cuncolim police in connection with the murder of his wife Jiya Naik, 32, was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Quepem and a 14-day judicial custody has been taken by the police. Cuncolim police on Tuesday said that during the course of investigation the alleged accused was interrogated and he has confessed to having committed the murder of his wife. Police disclosed that they found two mobiles in his possession, one belonging to Jiya and another used by the accused Jayesh. Cuncolim police said that the alleged accused after killing his wife had called some of his relatives including his sister at Hadfade. The alleged accused in a statement to police said that since his wife had threatened to leave his house along with his two children he committed the crime. Police seized a pleasure scooter and an offence under Section 302 of IPC has been registered. NT
