The state traffic police have launched a special drive to crack down on traffic violations especially related to rash and negligent driving/riding, drunken driving and riding without helmet.
On day one, the traffic cell, Panaji, has penalised around 217 motorists for traffic violations such as riding without wearing helmet (210 cases), drunken driving (two) and rash and negligent riding/driving (five cases).
The police said these cases were booked along the national highway on the city’s outskirt on Wednesday.
Also, there have been hundreds of cases across the state wherein traffic violators have been penalised. The drive commenced from Wednesday as directed by the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
In view of the alarming rise in road accidents and fatalities in the last ten days, Parrikar on Tuesday had convened an emergency meeting to discuss various measures to be taken to implement road safety.
