Congress to decide action to be taken on ODP issue

MAPUSA: Congress leaders on Thursday demanded that the Outline Development Plans (ODPs) should be scrapped by the state government as promised in the Assembly and the process must be restarted by taking suggestions and objections from the public.

Addressing the press conference, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco in the presence of Thivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar and other Congress leaders said, “Our demand is to scrap the ODPs as promised by TCP Minister in the Assembly, the government should restart the process by taking suggestions and objections from the public”.

He further added, “We have taken up the issue at all fronts and will be discussing this plan at the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee meeting in detail. The Congress party will then decide what action has to be taken on the ODP issue”.

The Curtorim MLA also added that there is illegal landfilling taking place everywhere in the state and the government has not taken any action. He said that even the Colvale jail has not been spared and the area next to the jail has been declared as a C1 zone.

Commenting on the downtown planning scheme under the TCP Act, Thivim MLA Nilkant Harlankar said, “The scheme is under the phase of inviting suggestions and objections, how has permissions been issued for construction activities”, he questioned. The BJP formulated the scheme to create a scam and loot the revenue of the state under the garb of development, he said.

He opined that the anti-corruption bureau should take a suo moto cognizance in this matter against people who have been issued licenses without approval of the concerned authorities and the case should be thoroughly investigated.
