Cong threatens stir on formalin row

The Congress party on Wednesday threatened to mobilise people and resort to agitation and hunger strike if the government fails to provide formalin-free fish to Goans.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Goa pradesh Congress committee president Girish Chodankar said the government has continued importing fish from neighbouring states just

to pander to the vested interest of some individuals and their trade.

“There must be a complete ban on fish imports till a mechanism is put in place to ensure that the fish is formalin free,” he said adding that fish is being brought into the state under police protection and that the fish testing at the state borders is an eyewash.

“We will hit the street after the culmination of the Ganesh Chaturthi and sit on a hunger strike if the government fails to take required steps to ensure the supply of safe and quality fish. We will also create awareness in all the constituencies,” he said.
