With an aim to understand the core issues faced by the private cabbies after the entry of GoaMiles, an app-based taxi service, in the state, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will hold a meeting with the representatives of the private taxi unions in the state on
Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at the State Assembly Complex, Porvorim, Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar said that the Congress party is of the opinion that the interest of the Goan taxi operators needs to be protected by the government.

“We will meet the taxi union’s representatives on Thursday in Porvorim. The taxi unions will put forth their issues before the MLAs after which the opposition bench will deliberate and raise their grievances during the forthcoming monsoon session of the Assembly which is scheduled to begin from July 15,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Kavlekar chaired the meeting of the CLP where the MLAs held discussions on the floor management in view of the Assembly session.

“We have chalked out a strategy wherein out of the three starred question permitted to each MLA every day, one common question concerning  major issues of the state will be asked by all the Congress MLAs so that while picking up the questions through the lot system it is not missed. For the remaining two questions the MLAs are free to raise issues concerning their respective constituencies,” said Kavlekar.

The Leader of Opposition further said that all MLAs are intact and there is no question of them leaving the party to join the BJP, and added that the Congress will have a full force of 15 MLAs attending the forthcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.
