Karnataka-Goa province of the Carmelites organised a conference for Secular Carmelites at Divine Springs Retreat Centre, Xellim Canacona. Vicar provincial of the province, Fr Pius James D’souza presided over the inaugural Eucharistic celebration. He reflected on the life of Prophet Elijah and asked the secular Carmelites to be zealous for God. “We need to cultivate among us the values of togetherness, holiness and happiness.” He said.
There were 75 secular Carmelites from Margao, Mumbai, Bajoddi (Mangalore), Koteshwar, Mysore and Mangalore who participated in the one-day programme to mark 400 years of Carmelite presence in Goa. Former general of the Discalced Carmelites and Provincial of Navara Province, Fr Luis Arostegui presided over the Eucharistic celebration on the concluding day along with provincial of Karnataka-Goa Province, Fr Charles Serrao and other priests. Provincial delegate for the Secular Carmel, Fr Rovel D’souza coordinated the three-day programme. Spiritual directors of Secular Carmel were also present on the occasion.
